Regionalism v/s Nationalism

Its the land of Shiv Sena, its the land of Chatrapati Shivaji as well. How can people here in Maharashtra be so much upset and angry about people coming here from outside ? Around two weeks back, My cousin with whom I am staying in Pune, caught a boy red handed stealing clothes, by fishing his hand through the window and pulling it out.

RED HANDED is the word, out of anger my cousin caught him and slapped him at the very moment. The boy around 18 years old apologized for the mistake then. After two hours here he comes with his father, who was angry on my cousin asking for the reason for slapping his son.

When replied with the appropriate reason, father asked the son, but the son this time deferred saying he never did that. Father then spoke out something that you never expect out of a man who is around 45 years old. He said "You guys have come from outside, you better be in your limits, otherwise you will have to face difficult consequences. Be careful !!!"

What was the mistake that my cousin made ? Should he have to keep his mouth shut and watch people looting his house or should he has to raise his voice ?

This was not the single occasion where this instance happened. I was parking my bike outside my cousin's house where another man around the same age told me to park carefully without troubling people around otherwise being an outsider I will have to face difficult consequences.

Where does an outsider come in picture in the same country ? Am I being too early in judging people around me ? Or are the political leaders playing a part in dividing people based on the state they come from ? I have no answers for these questions.

I just feel that when our economy is going great guns, why is the mentality of people still not changing ? I would go for some kind of training probably a defence training for each citizen of our country which will embarb nationalism and not regionalism in the minds of our country.
